How We Install a New Roof

You’ve realized it’s time for a roof replacement. So, how do we install a new roof?

Great question! At BCM Roofing, with over 20 years of experience, we’re happy to walk you through the process step by step.

Preparing to Install Your Roof

We start by removing the old roofing material to expose the roof deck. The roof deck, a flat layer on top of the wooden framework, supports the weight of the roofing materials and any additional loads, such as snow or wind.

Installing the Roof

Once the roof deck is repaired, cleaned and inspected, we begin installing the new roofing materials. First, we install the drip edge, underlayment and valleys to seal all vulnerable areas.

The drip edge, installed beneath the gutters, controls water flow away from the fascia, giving the roof a clean, finished look. Next, we roll out the underlayment, a felt material that protects the deck from moisture. This prevents water from penetrating the roof and leaking into your home.

We then waterproof the valleys, which are prone to ice and water buildup. Proper waterproofing here is crucial to preventing leaks.

Installing New Shingles

With the roof prepped, we install the starter shingles along the eaves and rakes to protect the roof from water and wind. These shingles create a solid base for the rest of the shingles.

We then install the new shingles in a staggered pattern to ensure proper alignment and overlap. This prevents rain or snow from penetrating the edges and causing leaks.

Afterward, we install flashing around chimneys, skylights and vents. Flashing seals gaps and prevents water from entering through these areas.

Finally, we cover the ridge (the peak of the roof) with specially designed shingles. These protect the roof system and provide structural integrity, while giving the roof a finished look.

Final Touches

If we’re replacing gutters, we install the new system before completing the final cleanup. Our crew removes all debris, including nails and leftover materials.

Lastly, now is the time a BCM Roofing Manager will meet with you the homeowner to review the completed work to address any and all questions.
